What you will be able to do

Name the main organelles and say what each one is for
Predict which way water and solutes will move across a membrane
Write and explain the equation for aerobic respiration
Describe how enzyme activity changes with temperature and pH
Read and complete a Punnett square for a monohybrid cross
Trace a red blood cell through both circuits of the heart
Explain sickle cell inheritance and why the trait persists in malarial regions

About this course

Biology is usually taught as a list of things to memorise. This course teaches it as a chain of consequences: because a membrane is built this way, a cell can do that; because haemoglobin folds like this, altitude feels like that. You start inside a single cell and finish able to explain why a person with sickle cell trait is protected against malaria.

Before you start

No prior biology required
Comfortable with simple fractions and ratios
